Student Government passes resolutions on WCSB, student organization funding and enhanced communication – The Cauldron
After half a semester of re-elections, the Cleveland State University Student Government Association (SGA) is back in session – and has already passed three resolutions.
SGA held its first senate meeting of the semester on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m., during which the body passed three resolutions supporting WCSB, pushing for student organization funding and introducing an initiative for enhanced communication campuswide.
All three resolutions were sponsored by Interim Speaker of the Senate Jack Whitman.

In “A Resolution Supporting Student Radio,” CSU Student Government calls on CSU to restore WCSB back to the students.
This resolution passed after CSU announced in October that Ideastream would be taking over WCSB 89.3FM and converting the alternative radio station into a jazz station through a strategic partnership with the university. The decision has generated immense student and community backlash.
WCSB student leadership, who now refer to the axed station as XCSB, shared that they were given no notice of this decision – including access to the radio station’s space – and were informed at the same time as the rest of the campus community. They also told The Cauldron that they were denied access to the WCSB space right after the decision was announced.
SGA’s resolution calls on CSU “to solicit and consider input from students and the
public before making decisions with a measurable impact” while also “provid[ing] adequate notice of such decisions” and “pending access control changes” moving forward.
“A Resolution to Authorize Student Organization Funding” looks to help student organizations access their funds, which they have not been able to do all semester and has “limit[ed] their ability to effectively offer programming for the student body. The resolution describes issues with student organization funding as “a common occurrence.”
Through the resolution, SGA Treasurer Surabh Saxena will begin conditionally reimbursing for expenses incurred by student organizations in the fall 2025 semester “on a case by case basis,” and student organizations will be required to submit an itemized budget for anticipated spring 2026 expenses.
Adequate documentation for reimbursement and submission of a spring budget is due the final day of classes before Thanksgiving Recess, Wednesday, Nov. 26.
Earlier this semester, WCSB student leadership (shortly before the Ideastream takeover) protested several times in the CSU courtyard regarding issues faced by student organizations, including the lack of access to funds.
“A Resolution for Enhanced Communication and Transparency” outlines the launch of a twice-monthly “Update Bulletin” that SGA will directly distribute to the student body.
This bulletin looks to make up for what SGA describes as communication failures by CSU that have “limited [SGA’s] own communication effectiveness.” It will update students on actions by the university that will affect them directly. The email list for this bulletin will be provided by the university.
All three resolutions can be accessed online. The next senate meeting of Student Government will take place at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18. This timing will continue for the rest of the semester.
