CSU women’s Soccer falls to Purdue Fort Wayne in third conference matchup – The Cauldron

Cleveland State Women’s soccer team came up unsuccessful against Purdue Fort Wayne in Indiana Thursday night, after a 1-1 draw last year on home turf. 

The match began at 7 p.m. at Hefner Stadium with 121 in attendance, awaiting yet another Horizon League conference game. This was to be the eighth meeting between the two teams, with the Vikings coming in with a 4-3 all-time record against the Mastodons. 

The first 45 minutes of the game was scoreless, with a combined nine fouls, nine shots and five saves. The Vikings and Mastodons battled it out with a ruthless and competitive period. The two teams were neck and neck for a photo finish of 0-0 to end the first half, leaving it to be anyone’s game.

In the second half, with under 10 minutes of play, Purdue Fort Wayne’s Morgan Reitano, with an assist from her teammate Morgan Gallagher, scored a corner to foot goal to give the Mastodons a lead of 0-1. Although the Vikings fought hard for 90 minutes, they eventually fell to Purdue Fort Wayne with a final score of 0-1.

It is to note that the Mastodons are undefeated at home, with a record of 4-0-2 at Hefner Stadium. 

CSU Women’s soccer now have an overall of 3-6-1, with a conference record of 0-2-1. They are ranked 10th in the Horizon League standings, looking to advance as the season continues. 

The Vikings are slated to take on Oakland Sunday, Sept. 24th at Cleveland’s Krenzler Field.
