Cleveland State Magnus Cup recap

The Cleveland State swimming and diving teams participated in the 12th annual Magnus Cup, from Thursday, Nov. 21 through Saturday, Nov. 23 in Busbey Natatorium.

Men’s highlights 

CSU men’s swimming concluded the cup in first place with 1162 points, followed by St. Bonaventure (1312) and Youngstown State (1240). 

100-yard IM (individual medley): freshman Alex Cucu (50.70, 1st), senior Josh Merchbaker (51.15, 3rd), sophomore Aidan Florio (51.71, 5th), sophomore Michael Cucu (53.16,16th) and freshman Nathan Dunhac (53.17)

50-yard butterfly: sophomore Daniel Lyngaas (22.01, 6th), freshman Cameron Craft (22.10, 10th), senior Andrew Arslanian (22.88, 1st in B-final), freshman Ethan Mumma (22.96, 14th), freshman Nate Steiner (23.4,16th) and freshman Seth Smith (23.26, 19th)

200-yard backstroke: senior Jackson Nester (1:44.88, 1st), freshman Brock Wallce (1:52.62, 9th) and sophomore Tanner Beck (1:51.70, 13th)

100-yard freestyle: sophomore Dogukan Tombul (45.27), senior Connor Green (45.30), Daniel Lyngaas (45.49), Cameron Craft (45.51), and freshman Joe Parkhurst (45.68) all earned spots five through nine; freshman Noah Greer (46.35, 18th)

200-yard backstroke: junior Tyler Schultze (1:58.06, 1st),  Aidan Florio (2:00.08, 3rd), sophomore Ahmad Abdalhak (2:02.35, runner up in B-final), Alex Cucu (2:04.56) and Nathan Dunhac (2:05.15, 16th)

50-yard backstroke: Josh Merchbaker (22.67, 2nd), Dogukan Tombul (22.92, 4th) and Brock Wallce (24.34, 13th)

Platform diving: sophomore James Wolf (258.7 points, 1st)

400-yard freestyle: senior Paddy Johnston, Dogukan Tombul, Daniel Lyngaas and Connor Green (2:57.34, meet record)

Women’s highlights 

The women’s swimming team finished the weekend in fifth place, with Akron (1,728.5),Tulane (1,358.5), and Xavier (723.5) being the top finishers. 

1650-yard freestyle:  freshman Isabella Caraballo (17:12.52, 8th) and senior Mackenzie Lipnick (17:19.49, 10th)

100-yard IM (individual medley): graduate student Giovanna Cappabiana (57.54, 6th), junior Ellie Mckibbin (59.53, 13th) and freshman Skyler Turner (1:00.04,19th)

50-yard butterfly: sophomore Haley Palmer (25.92, 19th)

200-yard backstroke: freshman Eva Smith (2:02.93, 8th) and sophomore Kayla Brock (2:03.40,9th)

100-yard freestyle: junior Grace Chelf (50.99,1st) and graduate student Ana Sofia Sousa (51.46,16th)

200-yard breaststroke: Giovanna Cappabiana (2:16.40,4th), graduate student Kellsie Krisch (2:19.3, 6th) and Skyler Turner (2:25.93, 18th)
