In their latest senate meeting on Friday, Sept. 29, CSU Student Government Association (SGA) swore in eight new senators, a new director of finance and gave updates on a variety of topics.

New Senators Sworn In

SGA’s new senators include four At-Large senators, who are Uday Kiran Reddy Peddy, Edward Diflorio, Lincoln Short and Bhanu Ravuri. The other four are Fenn Tower Senator Jordan Sumter, College of Engineering Senator Zaeem Aamir, Freshman Senator Minh Quan Do and College of Business Senator Joshua Brown.

After interviews with an SGA committee, the aspiring senators were presented at the meeting to answer questions. Then, current senators voted by secret ballot on each individual candidate. 

All eight were approved and took the senator oath of office. 

New College of Business Senator

After the meeting, newly-elected Senator Brown shared with The Cauldron that after seeing the hiring sign outside the SGA office, Student Center room 217, he researched the position and found that his values aligned with the mission of SGA, prompting his interest in becoming a senator.

“Being an out-of-state student, it was very important for me to get on the board and try to help other students in the same position as me,” said Senator Brown.

His first goals include initiatives to help business students find internships in the city and find places for students to study on campus. 

Two additional students, College of Arts and Sciences Senator Donna Salaam and Sai Reddy, an At-Large Senator, were scheduled to be sworn in. The two were not present to answer a question posed by Honors College Senator Jack Whitman, so their votes were delayed to the next meeting. 

Other Updates

Other updates included the addition of a non-SGA member, Cael Shaw, to the Public Policy Committee. 

Multiple senators also provided updates on work they had done, including meeting with students and faculty to hear concerns and make plans to address them. 

A new Director of Finance for SGA also took the oath of office. 

Among the updates were CSU’s newly acquired dorms. Students have shared many concerns with The Edge Senator Joe Nappi, including the state of the gym and the hole on the ninth floor of the building where insulation is visible.

He is reportedly working with the CSU Rec Center to address the gym concern, as well as the Area Coordinator for The Edge and The Langston, Uliana Spiridonova, to address the gates not latching properly at The Edge.
