Review: Glow Party was out of this world – The Cauldron

Glow sticks galore, banners streaming and whispers throughout the campus could be heard everywhere. It was the day, Glow Party day, and students far and wide were prepping for the biggest Campus Activities Board event of the semester. With over $45,000 in their budget for the event, according to a snapchat story sent out by Campus Traditions Executive Board Chair Lindsey Shahan, the event was set to be one for the books.

Whether you are new to the campus or have been here for years, it was clear that you couldn’t go anywhere without knowing that it was coming. There were posters in the halls, fliers hung on every door, hotcards in the dorms and giant banners in Berkman Hall to remind you while you were on campus, and emails to remind you when you were away.

Glow Party’s out of this world alien theme was a very different take compared to years past, however, students seemed to like it all the same. The entire Student Center was decked out in alien gear from top to bottom along with all of its activities for the night.

Starting from the top down, the third floor of the Student Center housed the vortex, laser tag, an adult sized human ball pit and a huge room full of old-school arcade games that would make even the biggest geek cry for joy.

If those didn’t catch your eye, then the next floor was sure to make anyone’s stomach grumble with happiness. From pizza, cotton candy, Dippin’ Dots and more, there was something available to satisfy everyone’s taste buds.

There was always something yummy available to eat, and while you were waiting around for your next treat, you could also check out the henna station, balloon animals and caricatures that were placed inside the Innerlink walk way.

Lastly, and probably most important was the dance floor. With a DJ laying down some of the most loved hits from the 2000s and the newest hits of today, there was a little something for everyone who wanted to “bust a move” as the kids used to say.

Overall the event was a success and had plenty to enjoy for all who came. While there is always room for improvement in terms of accessibility and hydration levels, those are all things that can be addressed for next year.

Many recommendations from students come in the form of having more water available due to quick dehydration on the dance floor, and less strobe lights so that those who have medical conditions can also come and enjoy the fun like everyone else.

However, for those who attended, the fun didn’t stop until the last song was played.
