A bomb threat was received for Fenn Tower at around 9:00 p.m. on Dec. 1st. The building, a student residence hall home to over 400 freshmen, was evacuated, with students directed toward the Recreation Center.

Students congregate in the Rec Center after being evacuated.

The initial alert was sent to students at 9:18 p.m., but did not specify the nature of the threat. One hour later, Cleveland State provided an update on social media:

“Tonight a bomb threat was received for Fenn Tower, a CSU residence hall. The building was evacuated out of an abundance of caution around 9 pm. Bomb sniffing dogs, CSU Police, Cleveland Police and Cleveland Fire are currently on the scene. Please avoid the area.”

The building, which has 19 residential floors, was cleared over two hours later at 11:43 p.m. Some students expressed concern on Facebook.

“I hope everything is okay. I don’t plan on going to classes tomorrow. I don’t feel safe.”

Colleges across the country have been receiving bomb threats frequently since the start of November. This is just weeks after a bomb threat was received for the Law Building, an additional cause for concern for some students.

“This is the second time this has happened this month and y’all expect us to go to class and pretend nothing’s wrong. Lol”

Universities are not the only places affected by this wave of bomb threats. Today, authorities were sent to the federal building in downtown Cleveland due to a suspicious vehicle, according to Cleveland 19 News.
