Eight Straight Wins for the CSU Women’s Basketball Team – The Cauldron

The Cleveland State women’s basketball team defeated Niagara 87-56 in a Wednesday night brawl at the Wolstein Center, with 303 in attendance. This victory advances the team’s streak to eight straight wins, ranking them first place in the Horizon League standings with an overall record of 8-1 (.889) and a conference record of 2-0 (1.000).

The Vikings had an aggressive start to the first half with a 8-0 run to later give them a 19-8 lead in the final minutes of the first quarter. The second quarter was almost mirror-like for CSU, scoring back-to-back baskets on another 8-0 run to give the home team an advantage of 27-8.

As the quarter progressed, CSU senior Grace Ellis put up a three-pointer to give the Vikings a 20 point advantage. The Cleveland State lead would soon be cut to 14 after a run from Niagara, making the score at the half 42-28. 

The Vikings came out in the third with something to prove, extending their advantage. Cleveland State senior Mickayla Perdue scored six straight points to open up the half, followed by a 7-3 team run to end the quarter with a score of 67-44. Perdue and fellow CSU senior Sara Guerreiro were two huge contributors to the fourth quarter, assisting in a 8-2 scoring run to bring the Vikings to a 87-56 victory. 

CSU was 54.4% from the field, with three players scoring in double digits: Sara Guerreiro with 22 points, Mickayla Perdu with 19 points and Brooklyn Fort-Davis contributing 15 points. 

Cleveland State will play its final home game of the month on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. against Akron.
