The Cleveland State women’s soccer team is currently 10th place in Horizon League standings, with an overall record of 3-7-2 and a conference record of 0-3-2. Although the team has not had an ideal start to their season, they are hopeful that they can turn things around.

Lina Feltovich, a senior for the Vikings, shared her expectation for the remainder of the season with The Cauldron:

“Hopefully in the next game we can get a good win and carry that momentum to finish the season and make the playoffs.”

The team has five games remaining to qualify for the Horizon League Quarterfinals, with three of them being conference matches.

“Through it all we have stuck together and still have the same common goal, which is making it to the tournament,” shared senior Grace Krosky. “Team chemistry and working as one is something we talk about before games and practices. We ultimately play for each other.”

Dallas Boyer, head coach for the Vikings, expressed the same hopefulness of the two seniors.

“There is still everything to play for. The teams we need to chase are the ones we get to play, so our fate is still in our own hands and we have every opportunity,” said Boyer.

Along with the importance of chemistry and playing as a team, Coach Boyer finds himself reiterating the significance and opportunity of playing collegiate athletics.

As voted on by the league coaches, CSU women’s soccer is projected to finish fifth in the Horizon League for the 2023 season.

CSU will open up their final regular season of play with a conference game against Youngstown State at Krenzler Field at 7 p.m. on Oct. 5. The YSU Penguins are coming off a 2-1 victory against Purdue Fort Wayne, a team that the Vikings fell to 1-0 earlier in the season, and hold a record of 6-5-1.
