Cross country paces their way to the end of an impressive season – The Cauldron

maximios February 7, 2023 Guide

The Cleveland State University cross country took on the Horizon League Championships on Oct. 30 taking home an 11th place finish. It was a somewhat disappointing ending to what has been a great season for the team, with not one runner placing in the top 50.

Junior Emily Nemeth was the Vikings’ top finisher coming in 52nd place in the 6k with an impressive time of 24:50. She once again beat out her personal best, which was 24:56, at the Horizon League Championships, doing the same thing not even one year prior during the 2021 spring season.

Next to finish was sophomore transfer Kiannah Sarver who finished the race with a time of 25:14, good enough for 62nd place and another top-two Vikings finish. She has placed in the top two out of six races now for CSU, continuing an impressive career with the team.

Following not so far behind was junior Hannah Korte who took 71st place with a time of 25:38. One of Cleveland State’s top runners since her freshman year, Korte continues to finish in the top-five for the university race after race.

Freshman Madelynn Madison showed up once again for the Vikings as well, finishing 85th with a time of 26:20. Madison raced well in her first-ever HLXC Championship and has done so all season with her fourth top-five finish with the Vikings. The four-time All-Suburban League First Team runner has a bright future here at CSU as she looks ahead towards the NCAA Regionals.

Regionals will take place Nov. 12 in Evansville, Indiana as the Vikings will round out their season, hoping to see it stay alive after Regionals.
