Cleveland State women’s basketball concludes a killer 2023-24 season – The Cauldron
Cleveland State women’s basketball had quite the successful season.

The team recorded a season overall of 29-6 (.829) and a conference record of 18-2 (.900). CSU remained undefeated at home for the entirety of the season (17-0).
Here’s a recap of the final matches!
CSU v. Northern Kentucky
On Friday, March 8, the Vikings took on Northern Kentucky in the Horizon League Quarterfinals at CSU’s own Wolstein Center.
It was a competitive start for both teams with back-and-forth baskets–-that is, until Cleveland State took a 22-19 lead at the 10-minute mark. That lead would then be extended after an 11-0 run.
The Vikings had the advantage at half, with a score of 52-31. Northern Kentucky opened up the second half with a 9-0 run, but with a score of 60-46, Cleveland State still maintained their lead. Despite NKU’s attempt to take advantage of the game, the Vikings continued to respond and execute on the floor.
CSU was able to come away with a 10 point victory, with a score of 88-78. This win would advance the team to the Horizon League Semifinals against Wright State (No. 4).
CSU v. Wright State
The Vikings battled with Wright State on Monday, March 11 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum Cleveland State had a strong start, putting a 5-0 gap between the competitors in the first minute of play. CSU would continue to extend their lead throughout the first half, going on a 10-0 run that would bring the half to a close with a score of 52-32.
The momentum was carried into the second half, with the Vikings extending their lead up 37 with a score of 77-39 at the 10-minute mark. The team maintained their lead to bring them to a 83-50 victory to advance Cleveland State to the Horizon League Championship against Green Bay (No. 2).
CSU v. Green Bay
The Horizon League Championship game took place Tuesday, March 12, again at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. This was to be the Vikings fifth appearance in the league’s championship game. Green Bay took advantage from the very beginning, outscoring CSU in all four quarters of play.
The final score was 64-40, with the Vikings falling to their second-seed competitors.
The 2023-2024 season at a glance
The Cleveland State women’s basketball team finished with the second highest single-season win total, with 29 wins. For the first time in program history, the team earned the 2023-24 regular season title,, with the Vikings being the number one spot in the Horizon League standings.
Additionally, CSU earned in the postseason tournament for the fourth straight time.
