Cleveland State University issued an email to students, faculty and the university community today- Nov 17 – detailing the university’s plans to move to fully remote learning beginning on Nov 30.

CSU did not initially plan to move to remote learning after the university holiday; however, with the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Cuyahoga County, rise in cases on campus, and a new curfew issued in the state beginning Nov 19, the university has ultimately decided to move to remote learning.

This decision comes after Ohio Governor Mike Dewine, via Twitter on Nov 11, urged Ohio residents to continue individual efforts to slow the high spread of COVID-19. Also in the thread of tweets, Dewine thanked the “vast majority” of colleges and universities for finishing the fall semester remotely after students return home for Thanksgiving. CSU is one of the last colleges in the state to move to remote learning for the duration of the fall semester.

While CSU classes are going remote, the university will remain open and operational throughout the rest of the semester ending Dec 12. The residence halls, dining hall (take out only), campus offices, and health & wellness services will remain open as well.

As of now, the university plans to return to campus after the extended winter break on Jan 16. Currently, the university’s plan is to offer 44% of classes in person, on campus.
