The city of Cleveland is a vast land of music and art. From the Cleveland Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to small local artists, the city teems with creativity. As students return to campus for the start of the Fall 2025 semester and go back to the hustle and bustle of school and work, it is important to make time to explore and get involved in local creative spaces.

October marks the start of the spooky season as leaves change from green to hues of reds and gold. In this month’s Arts & Entertainment catalog students will find local events that are bound to bring some color to the mundane routines of school life. 

Sept.16, 2025  Kujichagulia Writing Workshop

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. / Berkman Hall 135

Presented by the African Studies Department this free writing workshop is presented by Howard A. Mims African American Cultural Center.

Sept. 30, 2025 Crew Up

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. / Film and Media Arts commons

Crew Up is a lively event for film students and anyone interested in working on a film set. A panel of thesis film students pitch their films to the student body inviting interested film makers to become cast and crew.

Oct. 3, 2025 CSU Orchestra performance

7:30 p.m. /  Waetjen Auditorium

Join the CSU Orchestra for a night of lively music at the Waetjen Auditorium.

Sept. 7-28 2025 Our Town 

Multiple showings through September / Allen Theater

Price: Varies 

The American classic “Our Town” comes to Playhouse Square, following the lives of the Webb and Gibbs families as they experience life, love and friendship in the little town of Grover’s Corner. Cleveland State students and staff are eligible for discounts and lower ticket prices.

Sept. 15, 2025 Kickboxing on the Square

6 – 7 p.m. / Public Square 

Price: Free

Feeling up for a different and exciting workout? Well head down to Public Square for a free kickboxing class for all levels of boxers, whether you’re a pro or just starting out this class is perfect for getting out of your comfort zone.

Looking for a light stretch or a low impact workout? Head to Public Square for a 45 minute traditional yoga class.

Oct., 2025 AMS Lecture Series – The Golden Age of Latino Country 

7 – 9 p.m. /  The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Price: Free

The American Musicological Society and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame collaborate on a lecture series that brings scholarly work to a broader audience. This lecture series is perfect for anyone interested in musical history and the contributions of Latino Americans in country music. Hear from Historian Nadine Hubbs as she explores the 70’s and 80’s country music scene.

Cleveland brings spooky crafts, face painting, food trucks and more to Public Square for Fall fun Day.

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. / The Browsing Room Book Store & Cafe 

Each second Saturday of the month live musicians perform at the Browsing Room & Book Store & Cafe. Grab a book and a cup of coffee while enjoying local bands.

Various times at Shaker Historical Society 

Artist Chi-Ireana Wong asks the viewer to venture into her absurd and playful world of art where the ordinary, such as grocery shopping or claw machines become strange and other worldly. Through her artwork viewers are invited to take a step back from the boring and repetitive nature of their daily lives and look at the world through different perspectives.

In the heart of University Circle enjoy a crisp fall afternoon with free family activities, live music and entertainment as well as seasonal food. Fun for the whole family and people of all ages, kids can participate in the annual costume parade and take part in hands-on STEM experiments. Local food vendors and plenty of Instagram worthy photo moments. YAY! Fall Fun has something for everyone. 

Oct.  7-19, 2025 16th Annual Chagrin Documentary Film Festival

Various times at the Chagrin Valley Little Theater

A five day celebration of the art of documentary film, held at the Chagrin Valley Little Theater for the 16th year. The festival highlights the intricacies of Documentary film making and draws audiences from all over Ohio and the US to enjoy a cultural and artistic experience. 

Oct. 23, 2025 History on Tap: Behind the Screams

6 – 9 p.m. Cleveland History Center

Drinks and creeps, Behind the Screams edition of History on Tap is perfect for Halloween Lovers and horror connoisseurs. Explore the Cleveland History Center after dark while drinking themed cocktails and meet the makers behind the monsters. Costumes are highly encouraged! Live demos, prop and costume display and full museum access.

Oct. 23-25, 2025 Beethoven’s Ode to Joy: The Cleveland Orchestra

Featuring Beethoven’s “Symphony No.9 ‘Charo”, The Cleveland Orchestra presents Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”. In this concert the Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus bring a melodious experience that is sure to entrance the ears and hearts of the audience.
