A 2023 season recap: CSU women’s soccer – The Cauldron
The Cleveland State women’s soccer team’s season came to a close in October with an overall record of 4-10-3 (.324) and a conference record of 1-6-3 (.250). The team finished 10th in the Horizon League standings.

The season kicked off mid-August against Akron followed by three other games throughout the month, one of which resulted in a win against St. Bonaventure. This was to be the women’s first win of the season as well as sophomore Payton Koebbe’s first career goal, which gave the team the lead that would assist in a 3-1 win.
September resulted in two wins, two ties and four losses for the CSU team, the most prominent of which was a 4-1 senior night win against St. Francis. The team recognized five seniors; Kierstin Clark, Maria Bashardoust, Kathryne Ramicone, Bella Ceepo, and Mollie McGuire. The victory resulted from a constant team effort throughout the 90 minutes of play.
October consisted of five games, three of which were conference. CSU came out with one win, one tie, and three losses for the month. The rocky season came to a positive close with a conference win on alumni night against Wright State. The Vikings took the lead in the 63rd minute followed by a security goal to pull out a 3-1 win.
When asked about the biggest takeaway of the 2022-2023 season, former head coach Dallas Boyer, whose departure from the team was recently announced, commented:
“We have been pretty consistent in our performance and left many of those games being relatively pleased with how we played, but with the same token feeling a little unjust with many of the results.”
Throughout the season, team chemistry was heavily emphasized in and out of the locker room. To add on, playing together with an appreciation and understanding of the privilege to play a sport at the collegiate level.
“Through it all we have stuck together and still have the same common goal, which is making it to the tournament,” shared senior Grace Krosky in a mid-season overview earlier this year. “Team chemistry and working as one is something we talk about before games and practices. We ultimately play for each other.”
Although it’s not the season the team anticipated, there were an abundance of highlights and successes throughout.
Junior Erica Leinweber closed the season with the team’s best seven goals and was named the Horizon League Under Armour Player of the Week following the final team win. In addition, Seniors Linda Feltovich and Kathryn Ramico were named 2023 Horizon League All-Academics.
