With dark and melancholic lyrics, Joy Division and the successor of that band, New Order, solidified their place in punk history. 

Known for her hit song, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” which you’re probably humming in your head right now, Cyndi Lauper is a pop icon. She has had her songs featured in classic movies we love today like “Footloose” and “Clueless” which led to her popularity.

George Michael, who famously sang “Careless Whisperer,” was an 80’s pop star who is one of the best selling musicians of all time. 

Willie Nelson, one of the most popular country artists of all time, has collected 15 Grammy awards. He has had a whole career of memorable albums, songs, and performances. 

Known for their anti-political songs like, “Killing in the Name,” that made a stand against political injustices and inequalities, Rage Against The Machine is one of the most popular rock bands of all time. 

Soundgarden was a part of pioneering the grunge movement in the 90’s. Creating their most famous song, “Black Hole Sun,” and winning 2 Grammy awards, the band definitely influenced rock music. 

With 18 Platinum and Gold albums, and many chart-topping hits, The Spinners were a huge R&B band in the 50’s and their music will live on forever.

Influencing big names in music today like André 3000 and Pharell, A Tribe Called Quest confronted personal and social issues in their music and solidified themselves in the history of hip-hop forever. 

Known for their biggest hit, and the most widely known sports song ever, “Seven Nation Army,” everyone can agree this duo surely started a movement in several different genres.

Grammy award winning Warren Zevon was a widely known rock singer who was gifted in songwriting and classical piano.
